The Kirkside Bar held our inaugural charity domino tournament on Sunday, 24th April, in memory of popular Kirkside regular, Stan McRae, who sadly passed away at the end of 2021.
Stan was a welcome regular at “The Kirky” for over 70 years and always enjoyed a game of dominos. All proceed of the event will be going to Alzheimer’s Scotland, a cause that Stan was a big supporter of.
17 participants took part in the dominos tournament, and the trophy was won by Stephen Kirkham who beat Danny Roarty in a tense final.
In total, £1,700 was raised and this money will go directly to Alzheimer’s Scotland, to support the great work that they do.
The bar also unveiled a lasting tribute to Stan, with an engraved plaque on the bar where Stan sat for most of his 70 years, commonly known as “Stan’s Seat”
Event organiser and Kirkside Bar Manager, Alan Cameron said, “It was a great day, in memory of Stan. All money raised was for a great cause.
Congratulations to the winner Stephen Kirkham and we look forward to holding the event again next year”
Stan’s daughter, Isobel Tarczanyn, who attended the event and unveiled the plaque, commented, “I am grateful the Kirkside organised the event in memory of my dad. It was well attended and a good time was had by all with numerous stories and memories of my dad. I look forward to next year’s event ”
